Marja Mortensson, the young Sámi joiker and singer from Svahken Sïjte in Hedmark County (Norway), has a remarkable voice. Marja was born into a reindeer herding family and her life and music is firmly rooted in the Southern Sámi culture. Marja’s songs focus on aspects of Sámi identity such as the importance of the natural environment, her own love of reindeer herding and her desire to protect the Southern Sámi language.
