Try out this magical whirling dance!

Sufi dance can be described as a physically active form of meditation. It has its origins in Sufism – a branch of Islam. In the religious form, the goal is to reach out to God, and to the surrounding world. More worldly forms of the dance have evolved over time.

Camilla Granlien hails from Furnes in Hedmark, although she now lives in Lillehammer, and is one of Norway’s very best folk singers. She has won the elite class at Landskappleiken (the Norwegian national folk music competition), received a royal medal, and released several albums, all with very positive response from critics and the public alike.

Sirtaki is a fairly contemporary Greek folk dance, choreographed and made popular over the entire world in the film Zorba the Greek from 1964. It is derived from the hasapiko dance from Constantinople, whose roots go back to the middle ages. There’ll be dancing both in circle and in line. Now you too can learn this famous dance!
